Septimius Severus. AD 193-211. AV Aureus (7.30 g, 6h). Contemporary Indian imitation. SEVERVS PIVS AVG, laureate head right / RESTITVTOR VRBIS, Roma seated left, holding palladium in extended right hand, spear in left; below, shield set on ground. Cf. CNG 61, 1876 for a similar piece; for prototype: cf. RIC IV 288; cf. Calicó 2529; cf. BMCRE 358 // Lot also includes an Indian imitation of a denarius of Tiberius, of highly degraded style. Both coins VF, the aureus with the usual two holes in flan.
