Firm founded in 1898 by cousins Pietro and Pio Santamaria, becoming one of the most prominent Italian numismatic houses. Their first auction was held in 1908, and the series culminated in the dispersal of the immense Magnagutti collection, sold over seventeen years between 1949 and 1965. Subsequently, sporadic price lists were issued until the late 1980’s, when the firm dissolved.
