MACEDON, Philippoi. Circa 356-345 BC. Æ 17mm (6.26 g, 12h). Head of Herakles left, wearing lion skin / Tripod; uncertain symbol to left. Bellinger, Philippi, group II; cf. AMNG 7; SNG ANS -; cf. BMC 19. Good VF, dark brown patina, slightly clashed die on reverse.

From the Christopher Morcom Collection.

The area where the dies clashed is to the left of the tripod, obscuring whatever symbol was present. Nonetheless, the style, particularly the ethnic curving downward on the right, certainly places this coin within Bellinger’s second group.
