GERMANY, Osnabrück (Stadt). AR Taler Klippe (28.95 g). Siege issue. Dated 1633. Half length facing bust of St. Peter, wearing papal tiara, holding large key in raised right hand and book in left; before, coat-of-arms of Osnabrück and Wartenberg; 16 33 across field; all within laurel wreath border / Blank. Brause-Mansfeld pl. XXI, 1; Kennepohl 215; Mailliet 1. Good VF, toned, minor chasing. Very rare.


As part of their campaigns in Germany during the Thirty Years War, the Swedes, under the command of Axel Gustafsson Oxenstierna and Gustav Horn, besieged the Catholic city of Osnabrück in 1633.
