IONIA, Teos. Circa 375 BC. AR Drachm (3.41 g, 8h). Hagnon, magistrate. Griffin seated right, raising forepaw / Quadripartite incuse square with granulated quarters and thick crossbars; ZHION (sic) on horizontal crossbar, AΓ-NΩN on vertical crossbar. Kinns 11 (dies 4/- [unlisted rev. die]; SNG Copenhagen 1443; SNG Lockett 2853 (same obv. die); Balcer pl. XIX, 138 = Weber 6214 (same obv. die). Good VF, toned. Rare.


Kinns’ description of the reverse of this type lists the ethnic as THIΩN, but on his reverse die 8, as well as the reverse used on this coin, the legend is erroneously engraved as ZHION.
