Claudius. AD 41-54. AR Fourrée Denarius (2.37 g, 1h). Romano-British Imitation. Laureate head right / DE BRITANN on architrave of triumphal arch surmounted by equestrian statue left between two trophies. North Suffolk 110 (same dies); CNG 78, lot 1726 (same dies). EF, toned.

From the Gordon S. Parry Collection. Ex Berk 99 (25 November 1997), lot 333.

Possibly from a later parcel of the North Suffolk hoard of plated Claudius denarii found in 1995 near Wortham in Suffolk. These imitations were likely made in Britain around 50-51 AD. At the time of the publication of the find, about 170 coins were known from the hoard, though the authors noted that more were likely to be found.
