IONIA, Teos. Circa 510-500 BC. AR Stater (11.86 g). Griffin seated right, raising foreleg; M-E below / Quadripartite incuse square. Balcer group IV/X mule (A12/P33 [unlisted combination]); Traité I 500 (same obv. die). Good VF. Well centered and struck.

Balcer failed to note the M on the obverses of his group IV staters (although it is clearly visible on his example 12b = Traité I 500). This reverse die, P33, is now known to have been used with two different obverse varieties, one with an ME and the other with a heron.
