IONIA, Uncertain. Circa 600-550 BC. EL Hekte – 1/6 Stater (2.45 g). Milesian standard. Figural type. Forepart of bridled horse left, legs forward in running motion, and mane flowing behind / Quadripartite incuse square. Weidauer -; Traité -; SNG Kayhan -; SNG von Aulock -; Rosen -; Elektron 1 corr. (horse “head”); Triton XI, lot 252. Good VF. Extremely rare with horse forepart.

While horse-heads are relatively common electrum types, the forepart is traditionally found on depictions of Pegasos (cf. Weidauer 141ff). It is clear that no wing is present on the horse here, though, so it is certainly not Pegasos.
