INDIA, Local Issues. 18th-early 20th centuries. Five AV Ducats. Imitating Venice. Uncertain mint. All coins: St. Mark standing right, holding Gospels and presenting flag to Doge kneeling left / Christ standing facing, raising hand in benediction and holding Gospels, surrounded by elliptical halo containing stars. Lot includes: (2.95 g). Circa 19th-early 20th Century. Indecipherable legend, Indian couple standing facing, trident or tree between / Indeciperable legend, Female deity (perhaps Lakshmi) in closed elliptical halo; four and five stars flanking. Near full ducat weight and of good gold // (1.51 g). Obverse similar to preceeding / Indecipherable legends, unidentified Hindu goddess in closed elliptical halo, ten rosettes around. // Kanpur area? (2.53 g). WBNRKPTN VAGKDSURHO, Indian duo in Lavani dancer garb; arabesque in exergue / • VDRPNK • HPT • • WGBUAOSIP •, the god Vithoba (?) with hands on hips, closed elliptical halo with ten stars around. A similar example struck in silver was collected at Kanpur in India by K.K. Maheshwari. // (1.55 g). Circa 19th-20th Century. Indecipherable legend, Indian couple standing facing, trident or tree between / Indechiperable legend, Female deity (perhaps Lakshmi) in closed elliptical halo; ten pellets around. // Mounted bracteate. (4.44 g). Circa 20th Century. IHΛИVEHI, INVVAJISHI, stylized Saint and Doge / Incuse of obverse . Cf. Ives pl. XIV, 7; cf. Mitchiner 145 and 149-150 (all silver); cf. Bell, Imitation 1993.3.2.710 (BM, unnamed bequest); cf. Gamberini 416 (attributed to Bulgaria). Coins Fine to VF, second coin pierced, third coin with suspension loop attached, fifth coin mounted to highly ornate suspension loop. LOT SOLD AS IS, NO RETURNS. Five (5) coins in lot.
