INDIA, Local Issues. 19th-early 20th centuries. Two AV Ducats. Imitating Venice. Uncertain mint. Both coins: St. Mark standing right, holding Gospels and presenting flag to Doge kneeling left / Christ standing facing, raising hand in benediction and holding Gospels, surrounded by elliptical halo containing stars. Lot includes the following varieties: (2.90 g). Struck circa 19th Century-1910. S/•/V/M/E/(retrograde Z)/E/T • D/V/X, ΛONII * CONEH •, very stylized St. Mark & Doge supporting pole / • V SII • I X • PI • DΛOV • • ΛICIS ISII • DVCA •, highly stylized Christ with sixteen stars around. // Imitation of the preceeding. (2.54 g). Struck circa 20th Century. S/M/V/E/И/E/T D/V/X ΛIOENIEΛI, highly abstracted St. Mark and Doge / VOTPИXИEIΛ • *HDTИCONTΛ, highly abstracted Christ with 13 or 14 stars around. Ives -; cf. Mitchiner, Indian 142 (silver & slightly different); cf. Bell, Imitation 1910.5.1.2 (BM, Pusey). Average VF, second coin with suspension loop attached. LOT SOLD AS IS, NO RETURNS.
