SICILY, Syracuse. Second Democracy. 466-405 BC. AR Tetradrachm (17.04 g, 1h). Dies signed by Eukleidas and Euainetos. Struck circa 415-405 BC. Charioteer driving fast quadriga right; above, Nike flying left, crowning charioteer; [EYAINETO on exergual line], chariot wheel in exergue / Head of Arethusa left, hair in ampyx, with EYKΛEI in tiny letters on lower band; four dolphins around. Tudeer 37 (dies 12/23); SNG ANS 266; BMC 190; Boston MFA 404 = Warren 374; Hunterian 58; de Luynes 1203; McClean 2712; Jameson 802 (all from the same dies). VF, die breaks, minor planchet flaws. Exceptionally clear signature on reverse.


The signature of Euainetos, placed on a high point of the obverse, is usually not visible due to wear.
