SIKYONIA, Sikyon. Circa 200 BC. Æ Chalkous (3.15 g, 11h). Nude youth walking or dancing right, arms raised above, holding long knotted fillet; to right, dove flying right / ΣI within wreath tying below. Warren, Bronze 7C.1; BCD Peloponnesos 319.1. VF, dark green-brown, almost black, patina. Very rare.


Ex BCD Collection (not in LHS sale).

The obverse type on Warren’s group 7 parallels a symbol used on coins of Alexander III ‘the Great’ that were struck in Sikyon circa 225-215 BC (cf. Price 709-726).
