Q. Pomponius Rufus. 70 BC. AR Denarius (3.87 g, 7h). Rome mint. Laureate head of Jupiter right / Eagle standing left, head right, on scepter, holding wreath; IIII between right leg and scepter, bird to right. Crawford 398/1; Sydenham 793; Pomponia 23. Good VF, lightly toned. Excellent silver quality. Very rare.

One of the rarest moneyers of Roman Republican denarii. Apart from his coins, nothing is known about him. Curiously, this reverse type may have served as the model for the later gold staters of the dynast Coson.
