Extremely Rare Pitane Issue

CNG 84, Lot: 615. Estimate $200.
Sold for $525. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

MYSIA, Pitane. 4th century BC. AR Hemiobol(?) (7mm, 0.43 g). Head of Zeus-Ammon right / Pentagram within shallow incuse square. Head, HN p. 357; otherwise unpublished. VF, a little porous. Extremely rare, perhaps the second known.

Head cites a specimen in the BM, but that piece remains unpublished--it does not appear in the BMC volume on Mysia (1892), and was not in any of the published acquisitions before Head wrote Historia Nummorum in 1911.
