Michael VIII Palaeologus. 1261-1282. Æ Trachy (26mm, 1.75 g, 6h). Thessalonica mint. Half-length facing bust of the Theotokos (Virgin Mary) orans; M[P] ΘV across field / Half-length busts of Michael and St. Demetrios, who holds a spear, holding patriarchal cross between them; above, star in center of firmament. DOC 131-2; SB 2310. Good VF, hard brown patina. Excellent strike for issue and very rare in this condition.
