GALATIA, Claudiconium (Iconium). Claudius. 41-54 AD. Æ 19mm (4.73 gm). Issued under the legate Annius Afrinus. ANNIOC AFREINOC, bare head of Annius Afrinus right / KLAUÐEIKONIEWN, the hero Perseus standing left, holding the head of Medusa and a harpa. RPC I 3543; von Aulock, Lykaoniens 245-249. Good VF, green patina with some flaking. Extremely rare, one of only six known. ($1500)

It is unusual at this date that a governor would place his own portrait, rather than that of the emperor, on his coinage.
