DOMITIAN. 81-96 AD. AR Denarius (3.52 gm). Struck 94-96 AD. DOMITIANVS AVG GERM, bare head right / Frontal view of a hexastyle temple with four steps, seated within is a statue of Jupiter flanked by statues of Juno and Minerva; on pediment, a seated figure holding a spear, two figures on either side; on roof, a facing quadriga in the center with two standing figures on either side; eagles at corners; IMP CAESAR on architrave. RIC II 207; BMCRE 242 (same dies); BN 216; RSC 174a. Good VF, lightly toned. Very rare type! ($2000)

The most recent example we offered sold for $2200 (Triton II, 1-2 December 1998, lot 874). The present specimen is struck from the same dies, and its condition is comparable.
