CNG 87, Lot: 418. Estimate $500.
Sold for $380. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

THESSALY, Phalanna. Early 4th century BC. AR Trihemiobol (11mm, 1.25 g, 4h). Aiginetan standard. Young male head right / Horse prancing right. Papaevangelou-Genakos 3; Moustaka -; BCD Thessaly 1252.1 (same dies); SNG Copenhagen 201. Good VF, very light porosity. Very rare denomination, only two examples in CoinArchives (listed as “obols”).

Most catalogs list this coin as an “obol,” but BCD notes (in the forthcoming sale of his Thessalian coins) that this is in error, that the coin in the next lot is actually the obol denomination for this series.
