Gotha mint; Johann Gottfried Wichmannshausen, mintmaster; Johann Georg Sorberger, engraver. Struck 1683-1687. Bucolic scene: man mounting a shield with monogram onto a tree; behind, shepherds playing pipes among sheep, goats, and stags; IGS below / In/Memoriam/Sempiter/nam (
in memory everlasting) in flowing Baroque script; all within decorative scroll; below, 1½ in oval counterstamp above I·G·—W. Schnee 469; cf. Davenport 423 (Doppeltaler). EF, lightly toned, some mount marks. Rare.
