257, Lot: 408. Estimate $100.
Sold for $65. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

Aelius. Caesar, AD 136-138. Fourrée Denarius (18mm, 3.18 g, 6h). Copying Rome mint. Struck circa AD 137. Bare head left / Pietas standing right, holding incense box and dropping incense onto lighted and garlanded altar. RIC II -; cf. RSC 36a. VF, some silver remaining.

Unlike most fourrée issues, which have a thick outer layer of silver, this coin appears to bear a thin silver wash over a bronze core.
