Hercules’ Third Labor – The Ceryneian Hind

THRACE, Perinthus. Geta. AD 209-211. Æ (41mm, 39.48 g, 7h). Labor of Hercules type. Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Hercules, wearing lion skin, standing right, kneeling upon the lowered hind quarters of the Ceryneian Hind, which stands right, and holding animal by antlers with both hands. Voegtli type 3; Stoll, Herakles 27; Schönert, Perinthos 662 (same rev. die as illustration); Varbanov 329 (same dies as illustration). Good VF, black-green patina with lighter green overtones, minor roughness. Extremely rare type for this emperor from this mint.
