KINGS of MACEDON. Antigonos II Gonatas. 277/6-239 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 17.06 g 12), Amphipolis, c. 271-239. Horned head of Pan to left, wearing goat skin and around his neck and with lagobolon behind; all within the center of a Macedonian shield adorned with stars and crescents. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΑΝΤΙΓΟΝΟΥ Athena Alkidemos striding left, holding shield with her left hand and brandishing a thunderbolt in her right; to left, facing Macedonian helmet with transverse crest; to right, monogram of ΗΡ. SNG Berry 354. SNG Copenhagen 1200. An unusually sharp and beautifully struck piece. Lightly toned. Minor scrape on the obverse, otherwise, extremely fine.
