T. Didius. 113-112 BC. Denarius (Silver, 3.93 g 3), Rome. ROMA (monogram) Helmeted head of Roma to right. Rev. T.DEIDI Battle between gladiator armed with a whip and a shield, on the left, and one with a sword and shield on the right. Babelon (Didia) 2. Crawford 294/1. Sydenham 550. Clear and attractive. Nearly extremely fine.

Babelon suggested that the reverse portrayed an episode in the Servile Wars, but this seems, as Crawford so acidly puts is, unlikely. It undoubtedly shows the kind of action the contemporary viewer would see at the games T. Didius intended to put on as Curule Aedile.
