THESSALY, Pherai. 2nd half of the 5th century BC. AR Hemidrachm (16.5mm, 2.60 g, 3h). Thessalos to r., naked, his petasos hanging on his back from strings around his neck, behind the forepart of a bull leaping r., holding a band with both hands under the horns of the animal; all within a border of dots / Θ-E above l. and middle r., forepart of bridled horse r., above l., lion’s head fountain spout with water pouring from its mouth; all within incuse square. Traité 1, 1431, pl. XLIII, 20 (same dies). Good Fine, toned; lower part of bull’s rear on the obv. double struck (or indicating an overstrike); metal flaw on rev. at 9 o’clock.
