THESSALY, Rhizous. 4th century BC. Æ Trichalkon (20mm, 6.90 g, 4h). Laureate and bearded head of Zeus r., border of dots / P-I⌶OYΣIΩ-N above circular, bunch of grapes hanging on a stalk from a vine branch with two vine leaves, one on each side; above grapes and to left of the stalk, Λ. Rogers 537, fig. 296 (same obv. die) corr. [no Λ on the photograph in Rogers, but this was meant to be mentioned in his text and was omitted by error]; see also Nomos 4, 1329 (different dies) and CNG 76 (12 September 2007) 418 (same dies). VF, green patina with some lighter green rough areas, mostly in the fields; a rare coin type, cherished by collectors of grapes and wine subjects.
