(867.1) THESSALY, Thessalian League. Late 2nd – mid 1st century BC. AR Stater (21mm, 6.37 g, 12h). Amynandros and Xenophantos, magistrates. Head of Zeus right, wearing oak wreath; ΞENOΦA[N]/T[OΣ] to left / ΘEΣΣA/ΛΩN, Athena Itonia striding right, hurling spear held in her right hand, shield on her left arm; A-MY/N-AN/ΔPOY above spear, across central fields, and in exergue; to upper right, owl standing left on spear; Λ above monogram in inner right field. Klose pp. 341 and 347, 29 corr. (this coin; reading of obv. legend, owl not noted). VF, lightly toned; scarce.

Head of Zeus right, wearing oak wreath / ΘEΣΣA/ΛΩN, Athena Itonia striding right, hurling spear held in her right hand, shield on her left arm; AP-NI[A] above spear, monograms in inner left and right fields, HΓHΣAPET[OΣ] in exergue. Winterthur 1727. VF, toned, die break before the face of Zeus; very rare.
