(902.1) THESSALY, Thessalian League. Mid – late 1st century BC. Æ Trichalkon (18mm, 5.76 g, 2h). Philokrates, Italos, and Petraios, magistrates. Laureate head of Apollo right; [ΦΙ]ΛOKPA-TOY[Σ] around; countermark in center: ΣEB in incuse oval / [ΘEΣΣA]/ΛΩN, Athena Itonia striding right, hurling spear held in her right hand, shield on her left arm; [ITA]-ΛOY above spear, [ΠE]TPAIO[Σ] in exergue. For coin: Rogers 37a corr. (spelling of Petraios). Good Fine, countermark is VF, green patina.


(902.2) THESSALY, Thessalian League. Mid – late 1st century BC. Æ Trichalkon (19mm, 5.50 g, 11h). Philokrates, Italos, and Petraios, magistrates. Laureate head of Apollo right; two monograms to left (barely visible); two countermarks--to upper right: ligate ME retrograde in incuse square; to lower right: ΣEB in incuse oval / [ΘEΣΣA]/ΛΩ[N], Athena Itonia striding right, hurling spear held in her right hand, shield on her left arm; [ΘEM]-IΣ[TO] above spear, N-I across central field, [Φ]IΛO[ΞE] in exergue. Not found in the consulted references. Near Fine, countermarks are Near VF, attractive light green patina; very rare.

This is the same issue as lot 901.8, above, and probably has the same monograms on the obverse.
