(926.1) THESSALY, Koinon of Thessaly. Claudius. AD 41-54. Æ Diassarion (23mm, 7.99 g, 12h). Antigonos, strategos. ΣEBAΣTHΩN ΘEΣΣAΛΩN, bare head right / ANTIΓONON (sic) [ΣTPATHΓ]OY, Athena Itonia striding right, hurling spear held in her right hand, shield on her left arm; monogram in left field. Burrer Em. 1, Series 3, Grp. 1a, 43 corr. (A15/R34; rev. legend); RPC 1436. Near VF, attractive bright green patina.

Due to the poor preservation of the examples Burrer had, he did not recognize the engraver’s error in writing the name of Antigonos.

Burrer Em. 1, Series 3, Grp. 1b, 59 corr. (A17/R48; inverted omega not noted in obv. legend); RPC 1435. Near VF, attractive green patina.
