Lot of 2 coins.

(931.1) THESSALY, Koinon of Thessaly. Nero. AD 54-68. Æ Diassarion (22mm, 7.38 g, 1h). Aristion, strategos. NEPΩN ΘE-ΣΣAΛ[ΩN], laureate head right / APIΣTIΩN[OΣ] ΣTPATHΓ/OV, Apollo Kitharoedos standing right, holding kithara in his left hand, playing it with his right. Burrer Em. 1, Series 1, 16 (A3/R13); RPC 1439. Good Fine, green patina.

(931.2) THESSALY, Koinon of Thessaly. Nero. AD 54-68. Æ Trihemiassarion(?) (20mm, 5.35 g, 6h). Aristion, strategos. NEPΩN Θ-EΣΣAΛΩN, radiate head right / API-ΣTIΩN/OΣ, Taurokathapsia scene: The hero Thessalos jumping from his horse, in background galloping right, onto a bull running right, the head of which he restrains with a band held in both of his hands; monogram below. Burrer Em. 1, Series 2, – (A8a/R– [unlisted rev. die]); RPC 1440. Near VF, attractive green patina with some red undertones.

The monogram on this coin is partially obscured, although it is clear enough to recognize that it is different from those listed in Burrer for this series. In attempting to discern the full monogram, it is tempting to see a lunate sigma on the left end, but this is one of the legs of the horse in the background. The fact that this is not a lunate sigma is confirmed by the use of the four-bar sigma in the legend above.
