(994.1) THESSALY, Koinon of Thessaly. Salonina. Augusta, AD 254-268. Æ Tetrassarion (23mm, 6.99 g, 1h). KOPNH • CAΛΩN[INA], draped bust right, wearing stephanos, set on crescent / KOINON ΘЄCCAΛΩN, Athena Itonia advancing right, hurling spear held in her right hand, shield on her left arm; traces of Δ (mark of value) in left field. Burrer, MA-G 56 (same obv. die); Rogers 133. Good Fine, thin green patina.

The mark of value has been obliterated on the die used for this coin.

KOPNHΛ CAΛΩNINA AVΓ, draped bust right, wearing stephanos, set on crescent / KO[IN]ON [ΘЄCCAΛ]ΩN, Athena Itonia advancing right, hurling spear held in her right hand, shield on her left arm; Δ (mark of value) in left field. Burrer, MA-G 56 var. (obv. legend); Rogers 132–3 var. (same). Near VF, dark green patina, a few metal flaws but compact and attractive portrait.

Burrer, MA-G 56 var. (obv. legend); Rogers 132–3 var. (same). Good Fine, green patina.

These tetrassaria with the longer obverse legend exhibit smaller and thicker flans than the issues with the shorter legend.
