SELEUKID KINGS of SYRIA. Demetrios I Soter. 162-150 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 16.68 g 12), Soloi. Diademed head of Demetrios I to right; around, laurel wreath. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΔΗΜΗΤΡΙΟΥ Tyche, holding a short scepter in her right hand and a cornucopiae in her left, seated left on a backless throne supported by a sphinx; to left, owl standing right with monogram of ΝΚ above; to right, monogram of ΝΕ. CSE 527 = A. Houghton, “The Royal Seleucid Mint of Soli,” NC 1989, 70 = O Mørkholm, “Seleucid Coins from Cilicia c. 220-150 B.C.,”ANSMN 11, 1964, 1b = SC 1611.3 (this coin). Rare. Very attractively toned and with an evocative portrait of fine style. Two very minor striking cracks, otherwise, extremely fine.
