THRACE, Perinthus. Severus Alexander. AD 222-235. Æ Medallion (38mm, 29.45 g, 12h). Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right / Zeus seated facing, holding patera and scepter; eagle at feet to left; to upper left, Helios in quadriga right; to upper right, Selene in biga of bulls left; below, reclining figures of Gaia and Thalassa; all within a double circle divided into twelve compartments containing the signs of the zodiac. Schönert, Perinthos 788 (same dies); BMC 58; Varbanov 475 (R7 – same dies). Fine, brown surfaces, rough and porous, flan crack, two flan striations on the obverse. Rare.
