SICILY, Syracuse. Philistis, wife of Hieron II. 275-215 BC. AR 16 Litrai – Tetradrachm (28mm, 13.67 g, 11h). Struck circa 218/7-214 BC. Diademed and veiled bust left; cornucopia behind / Nike driving galloping quadriga right; monogram to lower right. CCO –; cf. BAR Issue 65. Near VF, toned, somewhat ragged flan, rough cleaning marks. Unpublished issue for Philistis with these markings.

The monogram is known on a very rare issue of Philistis’s 16 litrai (CCO 87), but the combination cornucopia-monogram is known on an extremely rare issue of oktadrachms of Hieron II (CCO 14).
