CNG 93, Lot: 244. Estimate $750.
Sold for $575. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

THESSALY, Larissa. Circa 380-365 BC. AR Drachm (20mm, 6.18 g, 8h). Middle facing head type. Head of the nymph Larissa facing slightly right / Horse grazing right. L-S series 2, type A, O2/R1; BCD Thessaly II 284 (same dies). VF, attractive even dark toning. Very rare.

From the BCD Collection.

As noted in the die study (L-S), this reverse type is closely related to the types with boukranion symbol on the reverse, as both have the full ethnic inscribed below the exergue line. This issue without the symbol, known from one obverse and two reverse dies, appears to be transitional.
