Bronze idol. Western Semitic, Ammonite, 10th century–853 BC. A cast seated idol of MLK (often referred to as Molok or by the Phoenician Melqart). The idol sits square, wearing a long gown, similar to the Babylonian Kaunakes; he is faceless except for two eye sockets. Two recesses in his chest for extended arms, probably to receive gifts or other votives. His rear and the bottoms of his feet are pegged for placement on a stand. Height: 13.1mm. Sandy green patina. Good condition.
