PHOENICIA, Sidon. temp. Baalshillem (Sakton) I-Ba’ana. Circa 425-401 BC. AR Dishekel (28mm, 27.88 g, 11h). Phoenician galley left, [tiny BA in Phoenician on stern], before city wall with five towers; [M in Phoenician above, two lions standing outward in exergue] / King of Persia and driver in chariot drawn by two horses galloping left; M in Phoenician above; below, incuse goat running left; all within dotted circle within incuse circle. E&E-S Group III.1.q, 245 (D19/R28); Rouvier –; Betlyon –; HGC 10, 234 (Ba‘ana’). Good VF, lightly toned, struck with worn obverse die, test cut on reverse. Extremely rare with these letters, E&E-S notes only 5 examples from two obverse and two (or three) reverse dies, three of which are in museums (London [2] and Cologne).
