JUDAEA, Neapolis. Philip I. AD 244-249. Æ (28mm, 13.15 g, 6h). Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Helmeted figure (Athena?) seated facing, resting right foot on uncertain object, holding spear or scepter; to left, two male figures standing facing one another, that on the right raising hand and holding scepter; to right, female figure standing left, raising hand and holding scepter; Mt. Gerizim surmounted by temple complex above figures on left, star in exergue. Harl 21 (A5/P19) corr. (illustrations for 21 and 26 switched); Rosenberger 82 = Sofaer 158 (same dies); cf. SNG ANS 1017 (same type but figures arranged slightly differently; same obv. die); BMC 123 (same dies). Good VF, earthen green patina. Very rare and attractive for issue.


The last specimen to be sold at auction (Shoshana Collection [Part I, Heritage, 8 March 2012], lot 20658) realized $3500.
