Pupienus. AD 238. AR Denarius (21mm, 3.40 g, 12h). Rome mint. 1st emission. IMP C M CLOD PVPIENVS AVG, laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / VICT ORIA AVGG, Victory standing left, holding wreath and palm frond. Cf. RIC IV 8/8A (aurei, for obv./rev.); cf. BMCRE 57 (aureus; for rev.); RSC –. VF, porous, die break and weakly struck in center of reverse. Unpublished as a denarius, apparently unique.
