ANGLO-GALLIC. Eleanor of Aquitaine. 1189-1204. BI Denier (17mm, 0.91 g, 1h). Bordeaux mint. + DVCISIT (horizontal S), m/ ++/ Λ in three lines / + AGVITANIE, cross pattée. SCBC 8011; Elias 11; Duplessy, Féodales 1025 (Guillaume X); Elias Collection 24; Boudeau 466; Poey d'Avant 2741. VF, toned.

From the Michael Joffre Collection.

Duplessey gives this issue to the time of Guillaume X on the strength of the Saucats hoard, containing 749 deniers of this type, along with 5 of the first type of Louis VII. As no issues of the two intervening kings, Henry II or Richard I, were found in the hoard, this type may be more properly dated to the early 12th century during the time of Guillaume X.
