CELTIC, Balkans Region. Lot of eighty-six imitative AR Tetradrachms. Circa 2nd century BC. Thasos in Thrace prototype, with head of Dionysos / Herakles standing. Some are in good style, and may be Thasos official issues, but most are clearly imitative. Group ends with the furthest degenerative types, the legend consisting only of dots and lines. There are also three worn Athenian New Style tetradrachms in the lot. Based on uniform patinas, this lot may consist of one hoard. Average Fine to VF, many pieces seem to have been deliberately bent into a cup shape. LOT SOLD AS IS, NO RETURNS. Eighty-nine (89) coins total in lot. An interesting group. ($3000)
