The Pompeians. Sextus Pompey. 42-38 BC. Æ As (30mm, 14.93 g, 12h). Uncertain Sicilian mint. Laureate head of Janus with the features of Cn. Pompeius Magnus / Prow of quinquereme right. Crawford 479/1; CRI 336; Sydenham 1044; RPC I 671. VF, brown patina, a few light scratches. A previous owner of this coin, sometime in antiquity, “completed” the missing portion of the reverse border. Interesting.
