Heraclius. 610-641. AV Semissis (19mm, 2.19 g, 7h). Constantinople mint, 5th officina. Struck 610-613(?). Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Cross potent set on globe; Є. DOC 51b var. (obv. legend); MIB 71a (but same obv. die as illustration for 71b); SB 784. EF, lustrous.

From the collection of Dr. Lawrence A. Adams. Ex Ariadne Galleries (15 September 1982), lot 266.

A somewhat unusually styled obverse. A similar piece without the officina mark that is surely by the same hand has been attributed without explanation to Cyzicus by Diego Ricotta-Prina (La monetazione aurea delle zecche minori Byzantine dal VI al IX secolo [Rome: Santamaria, 1972], pl. IV, 17).
