GETA, as Caesar. 198-209 AD. AR Denarius (18mm, 3.45 gm). Struck 200-202 AD. P SEPT GETA CAES PONT, bare-headed, draped bust right / NOBI-LITAS, Nobilitas standing facing, head right, holding small statue (the Palladium?). RIC IV 13; BMCRE 223; RSC 90. Toned, good VF, a few small spots of encrustation, hairline flan crack. Artistic portrait and reverse.
Although the small statue held by Nobilitas is universally described as "the Palladium", on this example it is wreathed rather than helmeted and holds no statue of Victory. In fact, it precisely copies the figure of Nobilitas. Perhaps the work of a new, but extremely talented, celator?
