KINGS of THRACE. Lysimachos. 305-281 BC. AR Tetradrachm (17.11 gm). Amphipolis mint. Struck circa 288-281 BC. Head of deified Alexander right, with horn of Ammon / Athena seated left, holding Nike, left elbow resting on her shield, spear behind; monogram above knee, XA monogram in exergue. Thompson 214 var. (see below); McClean 4489 var. (same dies, but see below). Good VF, flatly struck at top of obverse. ($800)

Although this coin is struck from the same dies as the McClean specimen, the monogram in the exergue does not contain the letter 'E' which is common for this issue from Amphipolis. Due to the freshness of the die used, it must be an engraver's error which was later corrected.
