IONIA, Teos. Circa 540-478 BC. AR Tetartemorion (0.25 gm). Griffin head left / Quadripartite incuse square with central pellet. Cf. Hirsch 221, lot 331. Good VF. ($150)

The griffin on the coins of Teos usually faces right, but there are left-facing griffin fractions that probably also belong to the early coinage of that city. The reverse, with its central pellet, reflects the style of the neighboring city of Kolophon.
