SAMARIA. Circa 375-333 BCE. AR Obol (0.51 gm). Dated year 14 (of the reign of Artaxerxes III?=346/345 BC). Persian satrap seated right, holding arrow with bow at feet; date and Aramaic "BT" around / BAGABATAC, Persian king slaying bull, pellet in center. Meshorer & Qedar 4. Good VF on a large flan with complete legends. ($200)

Bagabatas is unknown, but must have been a Persian administrator in Samaria. The obverse of this coin is derived from the seated satrap on staters of Datames of Tarsos (cf. SNG France 282).
