CILICIA, Tarsus. Hadrian. 117-138 AD. AR Tetradrachm (13.02 gm). Struck circa 117 AD. Laureate head right within fillet border / Tyche seated right on stool, holding palm; winged lion of Sandan below stool, river-god Cyndus swimming right below. Prieur -; SNG Levante -; SNG France -. Toned VF, some roughness and striking weakness. Apparently unpublished. Rare. ($500)

From the Patrick Cooper Collection.

This unpublished tetradrachm is probably the first issue of Tarsos for Hadrian; it continues the right facing Tyche seen for Trajan and employs the earlier form of S instead of the square [for sigma used in later issues (except for TAPCEWN).
