L. Manlius Torquatus. 82 BC. AR Denarius (18mm, 3.83 gm). Helmeted head of Roma right / Sulla in slow quadriga right, holding eagle-tipped sceptre and being crowned by Victory flying above. Crawford 367/5; Sydenham 757; Manlia 4. VF.

This reverse type alludes to Sulla's anticipated triumph, which he received the following year. Crawford believes the obverse type proclaims an identification of Sulla's cause with that of the res publica, which he intended to restore.
