‘ATYPICAL’ COINS, Emesa type. Macrinus. AD 217-218. AR Tetradrachm (24mm, 11.06 g, 1h). Laureate head right / Eagle standing facing, head and tail left, with wings spread, holding wreath in beak; between legs, radiate and draped bust of Shamash left. Prieur –. Toned, some porosity. VF. Extremely rare, this coin was not part of the Prieur collection at the time of his book’s publication, and no other Emesa type atypical coins were noted.
