Bauslaugh's study of the countermarks of Eumenes II (NumChron 1990) consists solely of the post-Apamaiean bow-in-bowcase type with abbreviated city names. As none of the identified mints of the Pergamene kingdom under Eumenes begin with AN, it is likely that this countermark is not part of the post-Apamaiean issue. Nevertheless, both countermark types are attributes of Apollo, which may indicate some relation between the two. Without further study the issuing authority and purpose of this countermark remain unknown.
